I’d moved back in with her after I failed to walk down the aisle successfully. I finally understood that she’s always on my side, even if it doesn’t always show.
The sun was setting. Everything was quiet.
“Thank you,” I finally said, realizing I felt no bitterness towards Chris or Jenna.
“For what?”
“For shouting.
For ruining the ceremony. For saving me from a lifetime of lies.”
She turned to me, her eyes soft. “You would’ve seen it eventually.
But I couldn’t let you say ‘I do’ to someone who’d already chosen someone else.”
I reached for her hand.
“Sometimes,” she said, squeezing mine, “the ugliest day becomes the most powerful turning point.”
